Brooklyn Groups Host Homeowner Town Hall

Addressing Real Estate Fraud and Developer Harassment

Brooklyn, New York – April 10, 2019. A Homeowners Town Hall will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 10am-2pm at the Middle School of Media, Law & Fine Arts, 905 Winthrop Street, Brooklyn, NY 11203 to address homeowners’ complaints of breakneck development, rampant real estate fraud, and intense pressure to sell their properties in Brooklyn’s hottest-ever real estate market.

Community Board 17, NHS Brooklyn, University Settlement, and the Middle School of Media, Law and Fine Arts are co-hosts. Collaborators include New York State Senator Kevin Parker, Assemblyman N. Nick Perry, and Assemblywoman Diana Richardson.

A panel of experts on the issues will speak from 10am to 12pm on the financial pressures and criminal threats facing Brooklyn homeowners, followed by a Q&A focused on strategies homeowners can use to protect their homes.

Panelists will include representatives from the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Real Estate Fraud Unit, the NYS Attorney General’s Office, the NYC Department of Buildings, and NYC Department of Finance.

Homeowners may meet one-on-one with counselors and representatives from 12-2pm for assistance with foreclosure, harassment, scams, fraud, property taxes, liens, and other housing challenges.

“We encourage homeowners to come out and share their stories and hear practical solutions to protect themselves,” said Tonya Ores, Executive Director of Neighborhood Housing Services of Brooklyn (www.nhsbrooklyn.org), a not-for profit housing organization and one of the event organizers. “Homeowners in danger of losing their home should hear all available options and be informed before and if they decide to sell.”

“Maintaining generational wealth in our community should be our top priority now more than ever,” said Gary Campbell, Board Member at NHS Brooklyn.

Press is encouraged to attend. Homeowner RSVP: https://bit.ly/2JCtJPR
