Stressed by High Property Taxes? Free Events in September Offer Help

September 7, 2018

Property taxes are putting a squeeze on most NYC homeowners.

According to a new report by NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer, property taxes for NYC households earning $100,000 or less doubled between 2005 and 2016, while wages for this group have increased by less than 5% on average. According to this Patch.com article, Federal tax reforms approved in 2017 probably won't help, because deductions for state and local taxes like property taxes are now capped at $10,000 a year.

What can you do as a NYC property owner?

Come to an NHS Brooklyn event and learn how you might reduce your property taxes.

This month, we're holding two events at which you can meet with a representative of the NYC Department of Finance who will check which property tax exemptions you're eligible for and sign you up for any you're not yet receiving. In addition, you'll learn how to challenge the market value of your property and check if the city's description of your property has an error that is causing you to be overcharged.

These events are free, open to the public, and you don't have to have a mortgage or be behind paying one to attend. RSVP for an evening weekday session in East Flatbush or a Saturday afternoon session, at which you may also attend other seminars. (Bring friends who rent to this one, too!)

Click the words above in blue or the flyers below to register for either or both.
