Golden Invites NHS Brooklyn to Gerritsen Beach Town Halls

March 28, 2018

This month, New York State Senator Marty Golden held another Town Hall in Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn, a community that was severely impacted by Superstorm Sandy in October 2012, and that is still recovering from the disaster.

Although the progress of NYC's post-Sandy residential rebuilding initiative, Build It Back, was at the top of the agenda at the meeting, Golden also had NHS Brooklyn speak to the crowd about flood- and homeowner-insurance issues.

Recognizing the importance of the topic, the senator plans to hold another Town Hall in May, at which NHS Brooklyn will again present on insurance, but also explain the Home Resiliency Program, which helps homeowners manage their flood risks and premiums.

After extensive outreach by NHS Brooklyn in Canarsie, the Home Resiliency Program was recently expanded to include Gerritsen Beach. Also now in the program's footprint are homes in Mill Basin, Bergen Beach, Sheepshead Bay, Plumb Beach, Manhattan Beach, Brighton Beach, Coney Island, Seagate, Gravesend, and Red Hook.

If you'd like to attend the Gerritsen Beach meeting, attend a free insurance workshop on another day and time, or have questions about your property insurance, flood insurance, or the Home Resiliency Program, email us at info@nhsbrooklyn.org and Beth Malone, NHS Brooklyn's Program Manager for Insurance and Resiliency, will be happy to assist you.

To find out if you're eligible for the Home Resiliency Program, visit www.floodhelpny.org and type in your address.
